How To Use Coconut Oil For Dry Hair And Dandruffd

Soak the Hair for Two Hours
Coconut oil is a natural way to moisturize the skin without infusing the pores with chemicals and toxins. When wanting to add extra shine to your locks, soak the hair in five tablespoons of coconut oil. Gently massage it into the roots and into the ends of the strands while covering the head with a shower cap and allowing it to sit for two hours. Wash it out thoroughly in the shower with shampoo that contains natural ingredients and blow dry the hair to enjoy a silky treatment that can be used once a week to maintain the condition of your follicles.
Massage Hot Coconut Oil Into the Scalp
Dandruff can immediately be treated by massaging several tablespoons of hot coconut oil into the scalp, according to wwww.womenshair.about.com. This can sit for up to eight hours to allow the pores to soak in the natural oil. You can also mix the oil with two teaspoons of epson salt for an ideal way of exfoliating the dead skin cells on a damp scalp and removing them from the hair. The exfoliation should be performed in the shower and can be washed out immediately.
Mix Coconut Oil with Essential Oils
An itchy and flaky scalp can make for a constant irritation, but a mixture of essential oils and coconut oil is a simple home remedy that sooths the skin. According to www.homeremediesforlife.com, mixing a cup of coconut oil with four drops of cedar wood, two drops of ylang ylang, and one teaspoon of tea tree oil will allow nutrients to penetrate the scalp. Allow the mixture to soak into the skin for at least an hour for proper hydration of the skin. The treatment can be applied at least once a week to prevent dandruff from returning, especially during the winter months.
Brush and Cover
According to the www.thecoconutfrontier.com, coconut oil is currently touted as a product that can treat both dandruff in adults and cradle cap in infants. Brush the oil into the hair with a fine tooth comb and cover it in plastic wrap to damp hair. The plastic wrap will allow it to set and become absorbed while also working as a detangler during the week.

How To Get Rid Of Black Knees And Elbows Using Natural Remedies

Different people have different types of skin, and the thickness of the skin varies around the body. Some people may develop various skin conditions while others may not. Not all people will develop darkened elbows and knees, but some will

How To Get Rid Of Black Knees And Elbows Using Natural Remedies

Here are some reasons why others have them and others don’t:
1. The skin on the elbows and knees may look dark because thick, dead skin has built up in that area.
2. Frequent friction; using that particular area of skin frequently, causes it to thicken and darken.
3. People with dark skin color will have darker elbows and knees; it’s in their genes.
4. Skin care protection is not enough in those areas. People concentrate more on the face, arms, and legs but often neglect the elbows and the knees.
5. Long and frequent exposure to the sun can cause further darkening of the skin.
6. Some medical conditions, diseases, hormonal changes and imbalances may actually cause more pigmentation.
7. Medication can also cause the production of more melanin which results in darker elbows and knees.
If you are one of those unlucky people with dark elbows and knees, don’t despair; it is a natural thing that happens to everyone, and it can be remedied.
The skin on the elbows and knees is usually thicker and has more folds. Plus, there are no oil glands in these areas; which causes this skin to be drier.
The answer to minimizing their unsightly appearance is by being aware of what we do with them every day.
1. Lessen activities using the elbows and the knees, to stop them from thickening.
2. Keep out of the sun as much as possible, or put on sunscreen if you need to go out.
3. When applying sunscreen lotions, apply less sparingly in those areas.
4. When taking health medications, check with your doctor about possible side effects on the skin.
Don’t worry about spending a lot on creams and skin medications to get rid of dark elbows and knees; remedies may already be found in your own homes and gardens.
1. Exfoliate – Use any exfoliating brush, pumice or loofah while taking a bath, to remove the dead cells from the knee and elbow.
2. Natural bleach – The juice of fruits like lemon, grapes, and tomatoes and are natural bleaches; they help to get rid of black skin when used regularly.
3. Olive oil and other natural oils – Olive oil softens the rough skin on the knees and elbow giving it softness and smoothness. Rub warm olive oil to the knees and elbows every day for 10 minutes.
4. Aloe Vera gel – Aloe Vera reduces the sun’s damage by moisturizing the skin and preventing dryness which lead to darkening of the skin. Using the gel from fresh Aloe Vera leaves, apply the gel on the elbows and knees and leave for an hour.
5. Apply fresh lemon juice to your knees and elbows. Leave it on overnight, and wash it off in the morning.

How To Reduce The Visible Signs Of Cold Sore

Cold sores are group of fluid-filled blisters that develop on the lips or around the mouth. An outbreak of such sore starts with a tingling sensation and eventually a small cluster of blisters appears in the affected area.

How To Reduce The Visible Signs Of Cold Sore

Check the visible signs of cold sore and how you can treat them in just 8 days.
Day 1: Tingling sensation around your lips.
Problem:
The first visible sign of cold sore is the tingling and burning sensation in the area where those blisters are about to form. Prevent the outbreak at its initial stage and treat when it itches you first.

Solution:
– Apply antiviral cream as it alleviates pain.
– Try applying Zovirax antiviral cream as soon as you get the tingle. Continue using this cream for best result as it stops the virus replicating and treat it rapidly.
– Don’t scratch the infected area as this may provoke the virus to spread.
– Wash your hands immediately, if you have touched the infected area.

Day 2 and 3 : Swelling in the infected area.
Problem:
The next day, the tingling area turns into a bulge that makes the condition even worse. Though the pain has been relieved, but the itch is still vibrating. The lumps appear white on the third day and this makes the sore more visible.

Solution:
Keep applying the antiviral creams as it alleviates pain. Dab the cream on the top of lumps, but don’t rub it. Simply leave a layer of cream on the top of the area.
Prevent the sore from growing bigger this day. How? Here are the concerns you need to take care on this day. Check it below:

– Avoid squeezing the sore as this might delay the healing process.
– Use sunscreen whenever you go out during the daytime.
– Place ice-cubes on the sore as it helps in quick healing.
– Avoid acidic, salty and fried food as this might increase the pain.

Day 4 : Tingling Stops and Scab Appears!
Problem:
Finally, on the fourth day, the itching sensation stops and you will notice a thick outer layer. Scab appears to be as skin color and so it is not very noticeable. How to deal at this stage? Here is the solution.

Solution:
– Apply the antiviral cream around the cold sore, not on the scab.
– Don’t use water on the sore. Keep it dry.
– Avoid stretching and cracking of a scab.
– Don’t open your mouth wide as this may harm the sore.

Day 5 to Day 7 – Remove the dry skin and hard shell on the cold sore!
Problem:
Scratching or cracking of scab leads to worse condition. It may cause bleeding and pain. How to deal with such condition?

Solution:
The scab that has been developed on the previous day, should be taken a great care. Don’t allow the scab to crack until and unless the dry skin appears. Even avoid scratching of the infected area as this might stretch the scab to open. Try your best and keep the scab safe without any scratch or crack.

On the 6th day, you notice a dry skin around the scab and you need to remove the skin with the tweezers. Take a great care of the scab as you don’t want bleeding.
At the end of day 7, remove the scab gently through the water. Don’t remove the scab at once. First try to remove the top hard shell and let the area get dry. Leave the healing tissue that lies under the scab. When the area dries out, you will notice a new skin.
Day 8: Keep applying the antiviral cream!
Though the scab has been removed and healed, you still see those dry skin flakes. Remove it with the tweezers. Even apply antiviral creams as the area is still infectious.
It has been just 8 days and those painful blisters have completely gone. It’s better if you prevent the visible symptoms of cold sore and heal it quickly.

Healthy skin cells harbour a high number of cancer-causing mutations And apparently, it's completely normal.

A quarter of healthy skin cells could harbour cancer-causing mutations resulting from Sun exposure, a new study by researchers in the UK suggests.

The finding offers clues about the transition of cells from a healthy to a cancerous state, and demonstrates how normal tissue analysis can provide clues about the origins of the disease.

It was previously thought that tumour-forming cell mutations were rare, and occurred just before the onset of cancer.

But this latest study, which examined healthy eyelid skin that was removed from four patients during cosmetic surgery, has revealed that these cancer-linked mutations "are staggeringly common in normal skin," one of the team, oncologist Philip Jones from the University of Cambridge, told Tina Hesman Saey at Science News.

The researchers performed ultra-deep gene sequencing on 234 biopsies of skin taken from the four patients, who were aged between 55 and 73. They were scanning for 74 known mutations.

They found that about 25 percent of skin cells carried at least one mutation linked to cancer. This equated to more than 100 potentially cancer-causing DNA mutations in every 1 square cm (0.1 square inch) of skin, which is roughly the size of a fingernail.

"The most surprising thing is just the scale, that a quarter to a third of cells had these cancerous mutations is way higher than we'd expect, but these cells are functioning normally," senior author Peter Campbell, head of cancer genetics at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, told James Gallagher at the BBC.

Skin cancer is caused by overexposure to the Sun's radiation. The mutations observed in the analysed skin samples showed the patterns associated with the most common and treatable form of skin cancer, known as cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, rather than the more lethal form, melanoma.

The team found that these mutated cells had grouped into clusters - or 'clones' - and had grown to be around twice the size of similar clusters consisting of normal cells.

But interestingly, none of the mutations uncovered had developed into cancer.

"The burden of mutations observed is high but almost certainly none of these clones would have developed into skin cancer," lead author, Iñigo Martincorena from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, said in a press release.

"Because skin cancers are so common in the population, it makes sense that individuals would carry a large number of mutations. What we are seeing here are the hidden depths of the iceberg, not just the relatively small number that break through the surface waters to become cancer."

The findings, which have been published in the journal Science, could inform the development of new cancer drugs targeting changes in the cell-life cycle, and also highlight the importance of keeping your skin protected from sunlight.

"Whilst the body's immune system can prove quite effective at removing mutated cells, it is important to remember that some of cells aren't removed and mutate into cancers," Bav Shergill from the British Association of Dermatologists, who wasn't involved in the study, told the BBC. "Prevention is the first line of defence."

These plantable coffee cups contain seeds to grow in your backyard

Each one is embedded with native seeds from the region it’s served in.

http://adf.ly/1HeoRS...

A new California-based start-up is marketing an environmentally friendly coffee cup that you can bury in the ground when you’re finished with it, and cultivate the seeds that are embedded in its fibres. And the best part about these cups is that, depending on where you buy one, you’ll be planting seeds that are native to your region.
Developed by a company called Reduce. Reuse. Grow., the cups are a response to the 25 billion styrofoam cups thrown out in the US every year - waste that will still be sitting in landfill somewhere 500 years from now. When you consider that on a global scale we’re drinking about 500 billion cups of coffee, most of which we’re not making at home, that’s a colossal amount of non-biodegradable cups to deal with.
As the team over at Earth Porm explains, even recycling isn’t much of an answer to this problem. "Once a product has been broken down about three times it is no longer effective to recycle it because it doesn’t have enough fibres left. This is how billions of coffee cups end up in landfills, even if they were originally recycled."

By planting a fully biodegradable cup in the ground - one that breaks down in 180 days and is guaranteed to sprout at least one tree - you’re not only removing your cups from the landfill equation, you’re growing something out of it too.
The process involves flattening the cup out and soaking it in water for five minutes. The seed-rich cardboard is then buried in the ground, and then it’s up to you to tend to the seedlings when they sprout. If you’re good at it, you’ll end up cultivating a tree that can live for 40 years or beyond. And if you really just can’t be bothered with all that, Reduce. Reuse. Grow. will be providing special bins where their discarded cups will be collected up and planted by their staff.
Earth Porm reports that over 140,000 of these cups have already been planted in parts of California, and the company is now seeking donations on KickStarter to launch them in other locations, including San Francisco and Colorado. While the styrofoam cup has become truly ubiquitous all over the world, inventions like this, and decisions like New York City’s blanket ban on foam cups and containers by July 2015, just might put a meaningful dent in their numbers.

Google will announce Android M at I/O keynote this month

Just as it's done in years past, Google will unveil the latest version of Android at its annual I/O developer conference. The company hasn't officially come out and confirmed this directly, but a session description that briefly appeared as part of the I/O schedule made specific mention of "Android M." (The session in question has now been removed from Google's I/O website.) When it was announced in 2014, Android 5.0 was first known as "Android L" before Google revealed its final "Lollipop" name months later. And while that version has so far made it to just 10 percent of all Android devices, Google isn't slowing down any in pushing the operating system forward.
Sadly the I/O session descriptions don't offer too many details on what to expect; the "Android at Work" session only says Android M "brings power of Android to all kinds of workplaces." Google has already started putting Android everywhere it can; it's on phones, tablets, in cars, powering TVs, and even running on Chrome OS. Now it sounds like there'll be a greater focus on making Android a force in the enterprise — and Google obviously needs developers to play a role in that.

Improved notifications and more powerful voice controls could be coming in Android M

Another session focused on "interruptions" hints that the company has been working to refine the new approach to notifications that came alongside Lollipop. Yet another session mentions something called "Voice Access" and suggests Google wants to let users control every feature of Android apps (and the device they're running on using only their voice. This would expand beyond the "OK Google" commands that are possible now. Google describes Voice Access as such:
Mobile hardware has adopted the touch screen as the primary mode of input. And with 1 billion active Android users, there’s no sign of this slowing down. What if you could provide users with a new method of access to your apps with little to no development overhead? In this talk, we introduce Voice Access, a service that gives anyone access to their Android device through voice alone. We will focus on simple steps developers can follow to ensure that Voice Access provides an optimal experience within their apps.
What might these changes look like? We'll know in only a few short weeks. Google's I/O keynote led by Sundar Pichai kicks off May 28th at 12:30PM.

Your Plastic Bottle Is Killing You! Here’s What The Labels Mean

Bottled water is the bane of my existence as it stands. These companies bottle up tap water from drought-riddled communities and sell it to you for a 1900% profit. It’s one big sham. If you don’t like tap water, just filter your tap water. There are some good ones out there. But make no mistake, bottled water isn’t any better.
Even so, we sometimes find ourselves drinking out of plastic and eating off of plastic. Most of our food comes in plastic! What kind of health risks do these various types of plastic pose to us?
Let’s go down the list.

1. PET or PETE.

These bottles are typically single-use bottles. It’s possible that they emit a heavy metal antimony which interferes with hormonal actions in the body. It can also be carcinogenic.

2. HDP or HDPE.

These one is the “good” plastic. It poses the least threat to human health.

3. PVC or 3V

PVC also emits toxic chemicals that can impact hormones in the human body. According to one study:
Because of PVC’s heavy chlorine content, dioxins are released during the manufacturing, burning, or landfilling of PVC. Exposure to dioxins can cause reproductive, developmental, and other health problems, and at least one dioxin is classified as a carcinogen.

4. LDPE

This plastic is often used to make plastic bags and doesn’t pose a significant health risk.

5. PP

This type of plastic also doesn’t pose much of a health risk. This is the plastic commonly used to package yogurt and syrup.

6. PS

PS emits a carcinogen known as Stiren. This type of plastic is commonly used for food packaging and coffee cups.

7. PC or no label

This is the worst one for food products because it contains BPA, an endocrine disruptor. Often used as sports bottles and food containers
So when looking for the least toxic plastic, look for HDPE and PP. Avoid packaging labeled PETE, PVC, PS and PC.
